I fished german lane on the 12/05/10. and had a fantastic day fishing quiver tip with feeder and luncheon on the hook , biggest catch was a 12 pound mirror carp and the rest averaged around 2 - 3 . I recommend this fishery to anyone wanting a good day fishing

Can you help me I use to go fishing in Wigan I am now starting back up I use to go to a place in Wigan or near Wigan but I do not know the name of it all I known its near the m6.….. you go through a housing estate and then on like a dirt track that went over a railway bridge and then carry down the dirt track on till you came to a little woods there was an iron cabin which was used as office which was two storey high with spot lights and a generator going in the back ground. there was one main lake with another at the side which was more like a canal. there is a railway line running by the side of the main lake but it was a freight line not a main line. But there is a main line near by as you can clearly hear this. It was a day ticket had good carp in there. can you help me with the name or can any of you readers help me in this matter you can email me with your reply I would be most grateful thank you for your time on this matter

Can anyone tell me where is fishing well for pike at the moment that isn't a members only water? Bit of scope on area ormskirk, burscough, rufford, parbold, wrightington, eccleston, heskin, and any areas in between those? If you can give as much detail as possible on waters and where they are that would be hugely appreciated. Cheers all!

Received from Andy 23/02/10

What a great site! You have done a really nice job of putting this site together. I'm not fishing seriously yet having had a couple of attempts at shore sea fishing and some boat fishing when I was young.

I'm looking to start Coarse fishing this year and have been trying to find out some info on Tackle shops, venues, clubs, techniques and swotting up on fish etc. It really is a lot to take in when you don't know anyone who fishes. I've been watching a programme on tv which has whetted my appetite, so I'll be taking the plunge soon.

Keep up the good work!

Received from Rob 06/02/10

I think you should add meadow view in Lymn just off star lane. its a really good fishery for both the keen angler and the novice. it holds mainly carp and roach. I'm new to angling and i catch 8lb to 17lb carp all day long and at 7 quid a day, sun up to sun down is not bad at all. its a good size pond with around 40 to 50 pegs well spaced. I have seen a 34lb carp come out of there so there are some monsters too. also it has two smaller ponds either side also well stocked but with smaller (4-8lb) fish.

Now for the bad points... some of the fish are a bit battered from manhandling and you can only use one rod. unscented baits, no boilies, no hair rigs and no ground baits and they do check!!!

so all said and done its a great fishery.

Received from Daniel 05/02/10

I fished a half frozen lake at Rising fisheries last week and although it was freezing to say the least i caught 7 Golden Orfe between 1lb and 3lb and a perch which was nearly smaller than the double red maggot i was fishing with! Its a lovely place clean quiet and food is also served in the small cafe they have there!! Well worth a visit i know i'll be going back when it warms up a little!!

Ps watch your meat the dogs are very friendly

Hello could any1 tell me where they maybe any big perch waters in manchester and some1 told me that wd40 is must for big perch? is that true?

Received from Craig 28/01/10

Oreet fellas I go stoat hall farm nearly every week night fishing. i find it is better to go on a friday night coz the aerators aren't on. I usually fish the pond at the back had a good session the other night had 9 carp of which my biggest was 13lb. I am pretty much sure there are bigger ones on there coz my m8 got snapped off a monster. I would also like to add I don't think there is any barbel in there he only put 1 in and to my knowledge no-one has ever caught one. One last thing does any1 know any other places in or around wigan that u can go night fishing cheers

Building up a good local reputation for fresh baits a warm friendly atmosphere and helpful advice. We look forward to meeting you.

Fished Barretts farm saltpit lane mawdesley 12/09/2009 fished 4mm expander pellets over micro trout pellets and carp pellets mixed.  caught lots of decent size bream bite a chuck, then from 18.00 onwards targeted margin feeding pellets with corn on the hook got 1 mirror 7lb and quickly followed by a common to 6lb. this fishery is not heavily fished and rarely has matches there are good size carp, roach, bream, crucians, and large perch guarantee a bite if you visit.

Received from Nige 14/09/09

I fished lakeside fishery mawdesley yesterday and caught between 20 and 30 carp Mainly mirrors with a couple of commons here and there, the average weight was 6lb, top weight 7lb and the lowest carp 5lb plus an unexpected 3lb tench. these were the only species I caught all day. I was pleasantly surprised as i had heard last year that all lakesides fish had died or been stolen I had indeed a red letter day, all caught pole fished about 6 metres out at about 4foot deep size 14 hook and cheap expander pellets from coppull anglers champion brand £1.50 a bag over sinking carp pellets cupped in cheap brand again from coppull £1.60 per bag fishing doesn't have to break the bank

Received from Nige 11/09/09

Hi, i just thought I'd give you a bit of an update on the fishing at Greenhalgh. I fished it recently and the fish were averaging around 9lb. I found that from pegs 17 to about 14 were really shallow and didn't seem to fish as well as the others. There are a lot of rules to keep to which is fair enough but there are also more that isn't on their website. Just have to be ready for an interrogation from the bailiff when you get there. However, don't let this detract from the excellent days fishing you will have. You will get bites all day but more likely to catch more early morning and then later on in the evening! I found that the best bait was feeding a few different sized pellets and fishing over the top with soft paste(pole fishing). Oh yeah and they come round and in the morning and get orders for bacon and sausage barms and a few other things which was delightful!

Received from Mark 01/09/09

I'm new to the sport of fishing but have been a dozen times to Firswood Fishery, (local pond) took my girlfriend for the very first time last Saturday & within 2 hours she'd caught 2.5 lb Mirror, a 3 lb Mirror & a 5 lb mirror. 6 times to Abbey Lane & twice to Charity Farm where i went last Sunday when i caught a 7 1/2 lb Mirror Carp. Best catch so far.

Lakeside is great and I have always had good days even when its raining and I always catch and i'm not the best of anglers

Received from Marcus 04/05/09

I am glad to say that it would seem that news of the demise of Lakeside is a bit premature:

I am the proprietor of lakeside fisheries at heskin. I wish to complain about a posting by derek on 18/04/2009. We have not lost all our carp. The match recently held by Arriva st helens fishing club top weight was 79 lbs second 47lbs and third was 36lbs. the lakes are well stocked with fish

Try http://www.heskinoldhallfarm.co.uk. There are 3 lakes there and they do allow caravans / tents onsite. Three good fishing lakes aswell. Better fishing than charity farm in my opinion.

Received from Crofty 13/07/08

Fished Lathom Fisheries on Monday. Fished peg 29 on what used to be the match pool (the one with the small island). Fished maggot into the reeds for half pound hybrids one a chuck, and 3 or 4 good roach (1.5-2lb). Changed to punched luncheon meat around 10mm in size and hooked into carp and tench all between 1 and 5lb. Also used the same baits to fish right up to the blue airator that sits in front of peg 28 with good results. All baits fished on the bottom over micro carp pellets. All together a catch of around 80lb over a 9 hour session.

Received from Dave 11/07/08

Hi do you know of any fisheries that take tents or caravans we've been to Charity Farm plenty of times (wife likes to come and enjoy the peace and quite) so get away fishing plenty if I take her.. Not too far away about 1 hr away from Wigan area. All suggestions welcome, Thanks

Hello all what an excellent blog of information you have created here.I have not fished for over 10 years due to marriage lol. anyway i have got the bug again and had to replace my tackle and start from scratch so now i have got together a fairly modest set-up i am ready to go , i live 2 miles away from Carrs side farm ince blundell and have fished there in the past with what i remember a good fishing session nothing massive but some nice roach perch so on i am getting my daughter keen on fishing and we are soon to venture and start our fishing adventures, i need to look good in front of my daughter as kids think their dads are heroes and i don't want to disappoint her but at the same time guarantee that she gets a fish to help herself get hooked on the sport excuse the pun. what set-up tips and easy fishing methods can anyone offer baits used here how deep to fish what are hotspots here, anything will help no matter how small, thank you for your time and hopefully for the tips

I have bought her a 6m whip to keep her first fishing visit simple and not bombard her with the methods of casting so any pole ideas for a youngster are more than welcome.

Hi just wanted to put a little bit in about greenhalgh its the best place i have ever fished i go every sunday with my mate and his girlfriend biggest fish i caught there was 11 pounder but ive only been 3 times i think you should let us use boileys on the pond but pellet is still really good its a brilliant pond and i love it going on sunday again hope to get a good big fish

Received from Adam 20/06/08

Fished greenhalgh last sunday although it was quite slow the 17lb common i caught on the pole made up for that along with 4 more at 8lb fished over hemp on corn. would recommend greenhalgh to anyone superb place fish clean and tidy i am going back next week.

Received from Adam 20/06/08

Hi lads i would just like to say i have bin going to greenhalgh fishery for about 4 years and it is 1 of the best places i have ever fished i just love getting up on sunday morning and getting ready to go to greenhalgh. My bigest fish i have caught is 21 pound 3 ounce common and it was on peg 29. I caught it on pellets from the shop and that is all i ever use but i think u should let us bring bollies on to the pond and see how they go but apart from that i think greenhalgh is a nice pond it is really clean. And u will never go to greenhalgh without catching well i havent. And i try to get peg 29 or 28 and i will be going this sunday so see u sunday trups. A bad day fishing beats a good days work. haha.

Received from Louie 19/06/08

Received from Chris 10/06/08

I have fished quite a few day ticket waters in the South Ribble/Burscough area in the last couple of years including several listed on this site. One annoying thing that I have noticed is the amount of litter being left by anglers. On one visit the first thing I did was fill a carrier bag with crisp bags, butty packets, empty sweetcorn/luncheon meat tins and chocolate wrappers. These were all around one peg. The really annoying thing about this was that the peg was next to a waste bin!! I've even had to rescue a duckling hopelessly wrapped up in discarded line and plastic rings from a six pack. So come on people. Enjoy your fishing but at the end of the day take a few moments to collect your rubbish. Rant over.

Totally agree, but as usual it's a minority spoiling things for the majority - webmaster

Received from John 05/06/08

Fished Charity Farm on Saturday, really good days fishing had plenty out of pond 2 on the pole biggest being a rough guess 6 pound common then later moved to pond 4 where i caught an immaculate 11 pound common carp caught on hair rigged 2 10mm scopex boilies with free offering of a PVA bag of fishmeal pellets.

Received from Craig 01/06/08

hi i've just fished gorsty hall in nantwich on friday and thought it was a good days fishing the only downfall is that all the fish i caught were about 6 to 7 pound the same thing happened when i fished harthill in cheshire they are meant to have carp up to 30 pound but on both occasions on fishing there i have had about 20 fish but all around 5 to 7 pound i use 14mm pellets a lot and also boilies i am thinking about going to brookside fisheries in warrington can anyone provide me with any good advice about the place ???

Received from John 01/06/08

it was a great day i caught my biggest fish it was a 12 pound carp i was so happy and i caught six other carp the smallest was 4 pound thanks for making the lake and i will be back soon

Received from Thomas 29/05/08

Found out that it isnt spout or sprout farm but stoat hall fisheries at back lane croston.Fished it yesterday had 9 carp up to 4lb 3 tench one of which was 5lb plus as well as roach, skimmers and one bream the pond also has chub and in the other pond it as barbel as well

Received from Mark 29/05/08

Mark, I think you may be looking for Stoat Hall Fishery. To get there (from Preston) take the A59 towards Liverpool. Through Walmer Bridge and Much Hoole then you will come to a large roundabout. Take the first exit onto Carr House Lane (signed for Chorley). Continue for half a mile or so and take the first right into Eyes Lane. Almost immediately the road forks. Take the left fork (signed vehicle access only) and continue on a single track road. The fishery is on the right. It's easy to miss as you have to turn sharp right to enter the car park. Haven't fished it myself but after speaking with a bloke who was fishing, its got the usual carp and some good tench. Hope this helps.

Received from John 27/05/08

re charity farm: i have it on good authourity that pond one and two possibly three may have been netted over the winter months and all the big carp are now in 4 apparently in two everything only goes up to 5lb my partner had a 21lb common out of number four two weeks ago i hear a lot of big ones have started showing

Received from Toni 27/05/08

Fished Lathom fisheries on bank holiday monday pond number 3 pulled out a lot of f1s and a strange looking fish looked like a small fully scaled mirror about 2lb but had the black spot f1 markings wondered if you could tell me what it was , also had two mirror carp that averaged between 6 and 8lb a piece.

Received from Toni 27/05/08

just been browsing through this site, and find it very interesting, with good information. i would like to get together an angling club started in the lancaster area, i don't know if you could help in any way by posting it on your site for me any interested parties may contact me via my email address

Received from Roger 23/05/08

Anyone interested can contact Roger at rogthedoger@btinternet.com

Re charity farm, i've found pond two gives you more than you can bargain for sometimes, plenty of fish with some nice tench, reasonable carp, and the usual small stuff. fish off small island and in margins, evening time produces best results before dusk, pond three is similar, if you want the biggest fish charity has to offer then pond one is for you, banded pellet, ledgered in the margins as a popup worth a go for the large carp. hope it helps, good luck

Received from Roger 23/05/08

Can any one tell me which is the best pond to fish at charity farm wrightington. and what are the top baits and tactics

Received from Scott 15/05/08

Received from Simon 07/05/08

I fished Beacon View on Saturday 3rd May, fished really well. I bagged umpteen Carp and Tench the best being a 5lb Mirror :-). i used two different methods the first i pole fished using Pellet flavoured with Super Scopex, the second i hair rigged meat using my carp rods and also using a PVA bag with pellets.

Hopefully be going again in the next few weeks when i get some time :-)

Received from Craig 06/05/08

OK, I'm going to have the last word on the under 18 issue.  We were all probably kids when we started fishing & probably all taught by our fathers.  We should be encouraging youngsters to take up our beautiful sport but they also need to be taught some important life values along the way.  They should be taught to respect other people, respect the rules, respect the fish and also learn to be tolerant of others.  If they make mistakes we should be there to help them so they don't make the same mistake again.  Wouldn't it be a better world if everyone learnt how to get on with everyone else?

The Webmaster

I disagree the people who are saying ban under 18's from certain fisheries. If a child is doing something wrong you should at least say something so they don't do it again. I think banning them is going a bit to far maybe they are not allowed without the supervision of an adult. ALL UNDER 18's ARE NOT BAD APPLE'S most under 18's go fishing without causing any trouble. I started fishing with my dad and i was brought up to respect the waters, fish and not to litter. tight lines

Just had a look at your website and it looks pretty impressive.  I looked at some of the carp pictures and one says 66lb, and errr.....if its true then that would be a british record! it looks about 20lb so you may want to question it.  Most of the fish are brilliant apart from the people who think they can post
a 20lb fish and pretend its 66lb. No doubt if it was 66lb then they would be  on the cover of every angling paper in the country!

Received from Zac 04/10/07

I started fishing when i was 12, now 25, but i didn't do any of the kind you see now at fisheries. Still, I'm not saying they shouldn't start fishing.
Received from Paul 04/10/07

hi in response to the under 18 should be supervised or not be allowed , no i don't think so ............. when did you start fishing ?????? sorry this makes me mad yep the kid did do wrong , but in his mind may be he didn't, WHY DIDN'T YOU HAVE A WORD  help is all thats needed, as for the lad with his father a quiet word any way i agree with

Fished carr side farm last week, great day but does anyone know how much it is to night fish?

Can anyone help with this & also let me know where this fishery is?

Received from Thomas 24/09/07

I was fishing at wrightington fisheries yesterday on the horseshoe lake and on the bit in the middle. A kid on the other side was casting his leger rig into the margins behind me all day and then sent it flying past them and about a foot to my right. He was supervised but his dad / grandad did nothing and the kid didn't even apologise. I would love to see under 18's banned on some waters. From my experiences 99% leave litter, mess about, cause trouble and don't treat the fish properly.

Received from Crofty 23/09/07

Under 18's should be supervised. I will accept that. The thing that annoyed me was, me and my dad were having good sport, and a kid at the other end of the water, casted his ledger bomb 60 yards passed me and bang, right next to my dads line in the margins as he was playing a nice tench. One thing it could have been badly tangled lines or the ledger lead hitting someone's head, causing a knockout or worse.

Received from Paul 17/09/07

So kids under eighteen should be banned then, don't you mean supervised or how will they learn, young kids should be encouraged to fish, that's what the sports about , but respect SHOULD ALWAYS be given to other anglers - couldn't agree more, the webmaster

Hi there - just moved to the Leyland area and wondered if anyone knew much about Farrington Lodges fisheries. Are these well thought of? IS it worth getting a licence or should i just stick with the day tickets? What is it stocked with? Also I'd be grateful if anyone could point me in the direction of a good chub and barbel river nearby (and how to get a ticket/licence). Thanks!!

If anyone can help then please email Stuart at stupdjob123@yahoo.com

Lancaster canal at preston - where the lancaster canal ends in preston/ashton on ribble. Apparantly its full of pike. I have been 4 times with lures for a few hours, this summer, and not even had a take. has anyone caught much pike here and is dead bait better than lures here? as I usually catch more on lures than dead bait in the leeds liverpool canal.

Just recently been to Brookside fisheries in Betley on one of my rest days! Gobsmacked to find the carp taking bread off the top right in front of you. Between me and my mate we had 74 carp and 2 big roach out just fishing on floating bread. Biggest carp was 9 1/2lb but they get much bigger apparently. Best fishing i have ever had.

Fished Lakeside for the last 3 weeks and hooked into one 8lb-ish. Fished it over 30 times last year and average was 10+ fish per session average 6lb. discovered that it has been stocked with hundreds of 3"-4" carp, great nuisance factor.  was aware of stock pond being full of these tiddlers last year. Don't know what's happened but most of the big fish seem to have disappeared and so have my father and I. Waste of time now.

Fairhaven fishery, Leyland. - This fishery is kind of a hit and miss place. Fished a peg in April. Had 20 tench, then the next time the week after, same peg, 18 tench, one carp. Next time, week after, in same peg, 1 small roach. All 3 days were sunny days in the evening, pretty much the same temperature, hardly any wind.same bait used. Cant understand it. In March, not much, a few tench and a few ghost carp were caught, about (6lb). Should be very good in summer and probably sick of catching tench.

I've been fishing Orcheton farm in Eccleston (next to the cattery) recently and its responding well to corn in the margins for plenty of carp and barbel. Also worth a go on the surface late on when all the carp are in the surface layers.

I have spent all my life fishing for wild fish in Scotland, until I moved to Ormskirk and I spent £35 on a cheap feeder rod and tackle and went coarse fishing for the very first time at Lathom Fishery. I lost count of how many fish i caught in 1& 1/2 hours i fished on the beginers pool, then i moved to pool 1 at 7 o,clock and spent 1 hour catching several carp to 4 pound,2 3-4 pound barbel,1 tench about 2-3 pound and what i think was a roach of about a pound. All this fun for a beginner, excellent time for only £5. cant wait untill i learn more about coarse fishing.  A BIG THANKYOU AS I FOUND THIS GREAT PLACE ON YOUR WEB SITE. As i have 11 children i will be spending more time here and will teach all of them how to fish.

Beacon View - fantastic lake. great day out. had been fishing the canal and not a bite, so me and a mate upsticked and headed for this lake. bait not in water more than 5 minutes and a succession of nice roach were leaping out the bank towards me. luvly water, nice and clean. good fish. will be heading back with bigger tackle to get me some of the big fishies that were leaping about all over the place.
Received from Greg 30/06/06

Fished Beacon View for the first time on 30.05.2006, quite windy but not too bad. I settled into the corner swim by the bungalow, the one with the floating platform in it, someone mentioned fishing close to the raft was best. After about 1/2 hour no bites, so i switched to about 2ft out by the reeds and caught steadily from then on, catching bream, roach, common carp, crucian carp on corn fed over hemp and pellet. Unfortunately no sign of the barbel or sturgeon were showing. I will definitely be back soon.

Got back from Thursland Hill a few weeks ago – Had 2 low double commons and a low double Mirror. Fished the “U” shaped lake and the alarms never stopped, fishing on halibut boilies loads of 4-8 Commons. Fished a day on the smaller lake with the pole and caught loads of smallish commons to about 3 lb. Helen’s great and the static caravan we rented is spotless.  Click here to see some pix.

I agree with Colin re The Cattery.  There was a match on at Charity Farm so an unknown angler (thanks mate) suggested The Cattery to me and my son.  Only fished late afternoon but had plenty carp to double figures, although the nicest fish was my lad Chris's 6lb ghostie which he took from the margins on light float tackle and a scrap of Spam. We floatfished meat and corn in the margins to sort out the carp although they were also taking worm.  We also had success with the feeder towards the island and catching up in the water on maggots. Tight lines.
Received from John 23/09/05

Cattery at Eccleston - Excellent days fishing on the No2 lake fishing just as you go on where you can get on the islands either by pole or rod and line.  I fed with pellets and fished corn and wham literally a fish a cast for 3 hours solid. Started catching roach and bream but then the carp to 3lb took over.

I found your site very useful, thank you for your effort. I fish Gorsty Hall lake near Crewe in Cheshire quite often and have had some good results. I will get you some pictures next time I go of the lake. I don't know if you know it. The day ticket is £6 per rod per day with carp to 30lb, my biggest being 20lb so far. Still trying for the big one,,,,aren't we all. Also there is a Chadwick dam in Stalybridge, which is at the back of Stamford park boating lake which holds a good head of fish, perch, roach, tench and carp. The biggest carp i have seen was around the 15lb mark though I have caught a good number of smaller ones up to about 6lb. The fishing is free but a current rod license is essential as water board do visit on a regular basis. If you would like more details and pictures please let me know. Thanks again.

Hi There, I would like to tell you of the most fantastic haul I have ever had, or ever seen caught in all my years of fishing man and boy.

It was around a month ago (April) and I had decided to introduce my fishing buddy to Brookside Fisheries in Betley nr Crewe .  I had already had some big catches of around each between 5 and 15lb carp (mirrors and common) Maybe 20-25 per session – so my arm has been aching here before!  It was quite a windy day and this was putting the sheeny ripples on the water making float bite indication a bit hit and miss. So my friend Ian decided to go on the ledger – but I persevered with the float. – Thank god I did! While all around wheren’t getting much action – I began pulling them in one-a-chuck! – Ian wasn’t close behind.  All the roach we caught felt like bream (but fighting back!) and all the carp I caught were around the 8-10lb stamp.

It was getting a tad embarrassing calling out our running totals to each other everytime we landed – the looks of envy from the other anglers – I was revelling in it because for the first time ever, the boot was on the other foot and I was catching FOR A CHANGE!!

I actually stopped at the magic total of 100 – then Ian said go on go for another to top the ton! – so I dipped my line one last time an pulled out a corker roach of around a pound and a quarter.

Species ranged from Roach to one and a half pounds and Carp (mirror and common) from 3lb to 15lb  Bait all day was smelly three day old – kept in the garage Maggots – all on size 16 barbless on one and a half pound line!  No doubt I could have gone on to more – but I wanted to leave a breakable record for myself on this water one day.  I would have always recommended this swim – but now even more so!

Remember the name Brookside Fisheries in Betley, Crewe – NOT to be confused with Brookside in Warrington !

I have attached a couple of photos – hope they can be of use…see photos on Fishy Pix page

By the way – the guy who owns the fishery is called Dave.

Are you aware of Hill Farm in Little Crosby, Merseyside. Hill Farm is not far from a popular fishing location called Carr Side Farm in Ince Blundell. Any way the point is, Hill farm was leased to Merseyside Police for a number of years. The owner has obviously realised its potential and has re-taken control. You can now fish on one of the 5 small or 2 larger interlinked ponds for £4 a day. The larger ponds at their deepest are about 8 to 10 feet. I've seen 20lb+ carp being caught by other anglers and i've caught 3 figure qtys of small roach and perch since january 04.  Don't listen to me, investigate because i think its worth knowing about.

Not been on in a while and a little disappointed not to have seen more interest in such a great site. Now that winters here and many of us keen as mustard (mad, stupid or just plain crazy!) anglers are still itching to wet are lines I have to mention the river darwin just before it reaches the river ribble. After foolishly agreeing to take my brother fishing I thought I'd try the stretch under the duel carriage way near the capital center. Not expecting a great catch I just brought the basics , a pint and a half of "disco maggots" , some river ace groundbait, a pint of casters and the highly under-rated , good old bread.
Using lightweight rod's with a light set up (stick float's with rubbers , trotting number 8's down the line and 2lb line with 1lb hooklength's) we set to feeding the far bank with river ace mixed with a few casters. After about a good hour the bites started coming and within the four hours we were there , we managed a reasonable bag of 17 roach and four chub. This might not seem a big haul but considering the weather and the flow of the river we had a great time. We have been told that this stretch is even better in summer , that is if you can find a peg!!!
One word of warning is that some area's of the bank are quite slippy so if you are taking young children be very careful, but apart from that , well worth a try if you want something a bit different from the usual commercial fisheries that dominate fishing too much these days  - received 08/01/02

As I always mention , great site , just a quick suggestion , if anybody out there knows of anywere thats free to fish for the kids then contact the site.I know there's two places listed on the site already but lets here from other free places in other areas to give them a wider range , plus it will get my brother out of my hair!,thanks - received 10/01/02

Anyone living in the leyland area should really visit shruggs wood angling club , also known as stannings as it really is an excellent fishery and at £1 a day for seniors and 50p for juniors and O.A.P's you cant grumble.
There's a wide range of fish including common carp up to 20lb , mirror carp up to 5lb , good sized roach (up to 1lb!),perch , skimmers , tench up to 8lb and a few big bream approaching 7 to 8lb.
This really is an underrated fishery and a top tip for the bigger fish would be "felix kitten food" fished just off the bottom and for the majority of other fish try curried maggots now the temperatures have dropped for a good sized haul.
I hope that in the future I see many more anglers on one of my favourite fisheries as it really is a shame to let it go to waste.
Also (gasp!) , anyone with kids who wants a free day out with small game why not try "the tench pit" as it's normally called by locals , just off brindle road on the new housing estate. This pit is packed with perch ,roach , rudd ,a few crucians and if you can catch them (good luck!) some huge tench. Top bait tip for the tench is worm over hemp and for everything else maggots, good luck!

Thanks for the excellent site. I was looking for North West fisheries and found the descriptions and especially the pictures very useful. Its good to be able to see which ponds are more than just a newly dug rectangle!  I'm looking forward to trying some of the featured waters.

The venues that are listed will definitely have me paying a visit once it warms up a bit, the ones around apply bridge / parbold have an excellent description (not saying that they all don't) and will look forward to seeing my rod bent double at these and more of the other venues.
I've added you to my list of favourites, and will be connecting to this site regularly.
Keep up the good work. - received 19/12/00

As a keen angler but can only go some weekends it is difficult to chose from the different fisheries out there. But after going through your guide the decision making has become easier. THANK YOU

excellent site,  I will be a regular visitor and maybe be able to contribute in the future, this is one of the best sites I have been on, not only because it covers the north west, it is also an easy/user friendly site that gives good information, tips, pic's etc. I wish you every success in the future and look forward to visiting on a regular basis. - received 08/08/2000

CAN I JUST SAY I FOUND YOUR SITE VERY INTERESTING,I HAVE JUST COME BACK FROM MY CARAVAN WHICH IS IN BANKS JUST OUTSIDE SOUTHPORT,

I FISHED LATHOM FISH FARM WHILE I WAS OVER THERE AND I ENJOYED THE BANK HOLIDAY WEEKEND WITH PLENTY OF FISH COMING MY WAY - received 25/4/2000

Good idea for a site. I looked on it in the hope of finding somewhere that my
11 year old son and a friend could get some tuition. We've taken him to
Wyreside Lakes, Cabus Nook Lane Caravan Park and Claylands at Scorton.
I will keep looking as the site develops. I'm sure they'll find the Tips and
Tricks useful. - received 5/4/2000

Great website. Very informative. I haven't heard of any of the fisheries, with the exception of Wyreside, but I will certainly visit some of them this year. You even supply directions.

Very impressed with your site.  Noticed the two ponds for kids at Walton Summit - Do you need any particular permits or permission to fish these? No, they are free to fish
